LORD, I DID IT AGAIN

LORD, I DID IT AGAIN

May, 2, 1989
Lord, I did it again;
I've wandered away from you.
In your presence, is love and peace;
In the world you pay your dues.

You paid the price for me,
So why did I walk away?
I never meant to leave you,
As I went my willful way.

The things of this world don't attract me.
I never wanted them at all,
But here I am among them;
So guide me lest I fall.

Somewhere I left your presence,
But where, I must be shown.
Was it when I forgot to ask your will,
And took a path all my own?

I never meant to go alone;
I wanted to be with you,
I'm sorry I never asked your way,
So I could always be near you.

I like this poem very much. I just wrote one today about the same subject. It is called Gods Promise and is on my page if you would like to read it.

A beautiful reminder to us all, fashioned very poetically. Thanks for the nice read.

So humble and honest and true. It really tells us something about you. Write on...

thank you for your comment. I've lived long enough to know that if we go our own way, we lose our peace.

The persistent separation by self will and renuification through faith. Nice. We are recalcitrant people. This ministered to me. Thanks.

This deserves much more than a 10...how many of us have been here? Again and again and again.....Thank you for this!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
