    Poem Commentary

This is not a love poem but instead it is a poem about love. Dedicated to my two friends and fellow poem writers WordSlinger and Madelynn.

    Love Defined

Love is simple yet love is grand

It is a sly wink and a touch of the hand

It is indefinable like shifting sand

Love is a lullaby.  Love is never planned

Love is soft whispers on a star filled night

It is a bride all dressed in soft lacey white

It is a walk hand in hand in the bright moonlight

Love is a poem that lovers recite

Love is like snowflakes that caress one’s face

It is missing a loved one in a far off place

It is a tender kiss and a tight embrace

Love is the one thing in life that we can’t replace

Love is laughter and happy times

It is smiling children and nursery rhymes

It is holidays and Christmas chimes

Love is sharing throughout our lifetimes

    Yet

Love can be painful when least expected

It can leave one lonely and feeling rejected

It can pierce your soul and leave it battered

Love can be unkind and leave one shattered

    But always remember

Love is the center of our being

It is a glimpse of heaven for the seeing

It is a precious gift well worth pursuing

Love, once found, makes life worth living

It gets easier to remember this too, as we get older. Doesn't it, my friend? Where did all that time go since we lived in southeast Kansas?

Hi Hampton, although we have never (and probably will never) meet I feel as though I got to peak into your very soul. I adore good love poetry, tremendously. Thank you for the insight.
