MIC CHECK

I need the voice  
that you hear
to echo through
like the
rhythm of the drum
my verbs beat too...
 
As this rhyme peaks
my tongue leaks
through the visions
of heroic soldiers
who stood before performing imagery
upon this stage

I bath
in the spotlight
calling on the ones
that have fallen
behind the curtain
of superficiality set designs
that displace the scarcity
of our virtuous characters
revealing to the audience
who I've become
as they listen
the mic magnifies
with surety

I've O V E R C O M E

Still judged for the role
that was assigned
reciting scripted lyrics
repetitively
the commentary
read me negatively
from seeded planted roots

but I am just
one of many amateur acts
under attack

Wreaking change
beyond the pain of bondage
pledging freedom
through the mic
I re-live the bitterness
full of resentment
I fight
to project contentment
I shine for the universe
to see
within the light

a historical product
of time
artistically expressing
statistical blunder
that holds me under
projections of deception
makes me systematic
a statue of the mic
a poisonous venom
from the falsehood
of hypocrisy

I  A M  H E R E
and I WILL NOT be portrayed
as a faded memory

My silence
is no longer an option
the players of the stage
fought for my spoken word

So poetically
I speak morally
to the self righteous
ear

My courage
roar abundantly
in Faith
I know myself
as I reflect on those
inspired
to step to the mic
for an encore performance

Applaud the lineages
that died so I can speak
and echo through
like the
rhythm of the drum
my verbs beat too...
