    Mutt and Jess

    Mutt and Jess

Just a mutt of a guy, he was

    Stray DNA still singing canto

Twin Irish eyes that twinkling smiled

    O’er that Roman nose’s shadow

    The shoulders of a Creton

    Mayhap a brain to match

But oh, those angled Saxon legs

    And hair of Scottish thatch!

Just a farm boy off the acres,

    Of a redneck’s small estate,

When he met his princess of the ball,

Let his dance step be his bait.

Her laugh hid his awkward moment,

Eyes winked off his fit of spazz,

And Jess let him catch her offstep,

As his floated off to jazz.

Later, in the subdued quiet dark,

    Shadowed comfort of her room,

He whispered hope in gravel tones,

    To stave off impending gloom.

    How could she ever value,

    A mongrel love like his?

And yet, he slowly pursed his lips,

As if to steal a kiss.

She blushed, but didn’t turn away,

Having caught him in her spell,

And finding nothing good to say,

She simply let her body tell.

    Then that DNA betrayed him,

    With strong Russian fingers splayed,

His hand slid ‘neath her satin singlet

When it stopped, and then just stayed.

That hand that came from Italy,

White like the marble domes of Rome,

Simply couldn’t raize and pillage there,

For his heart had just stole home.
