    Neuropathy

I'm so sleepy.....these pain pills cause a fog to settle in my brain. My body relaxes and my breath comes slow....I feel myself melting into my bed. The pain is leaving me reluctantly, and I am drifting into a blissful state of nothingness.....time stands still for awhile.
Then, something begins to pull me up out of the quiet depths to which I have descended; Politely at first, then, more insistent....it's back....I had hoped this time, maybe, it would be gone forever.
    No, it's back.....the pain....it's back.
What does it want? It robs me of my morning run, it will not let me dance....I want to cut my feet off and be done with it....but I can't do that...I have too many cute shoes! Oh well, how many refills do I have on this prescription?

Thank you for all your kind comments. I've read your biography and feel a bit ashamed for complaining about my neuropathy in light of your struggles. Now I will return to your page and check out your writings!

Lol! No, don't feel guilty! Pain is pain and it stinks no matter what. It's a terrible thing to have in common, but it does help to feel like we're not alone. ;) Thanks for sharing your beautiful writing!

I can relate to this poem.I had some problems with neuropathy in my hands a few years ago and had to go to physical therapy for a few months to gain back my flexibility in my hands.I love the positive spin you put on the end of this poem about the shoes.Nicely done.

You are singing my tune!!I am in recovery and this talks of one of my addictions.I hear ya.Great stuff.Alot of people don't get that addiction and alcoholism is not about "will power" I think you rock.Read me sometime.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
