Never Try

Never Try

Never try to compose a list
of the reasons why you love me

I am a mess of insecurities
and full of decorative tattoos

I am defective for reasons
you can't begin to comprehend

I am full of contagious cynicism
and disassembled ferocity

I contain origins of bewilderment
and eyes of indifference

I am overwhelmed with darkness
and an eerie chorus of whispered lies

Never try to compose a list
of the reasons why you love me

For you might just find
There's nothing there to love.

a girl told me yesterday that she likes to date but never wants to get too involved with someone because the "kilig" factor would be gone. "kilig" is a tagalog word for what you would explain in english as "smitten" or "butterflies in the stomach". And this was over my birthday dinner. I had no intentions of getting serious with her but that statement made a big impact on me, because it meant she was hiding much about herself that only gets revealed over time, over pavement cracks, etc.. thats what i got from this poem. and i love it. are you a fan of shel silverstein?

I like this "kilig" factor. I feel as if you reveal yourself to another too soon then there is no mystery left to uncover. What fun is loving someone who has revealed all their inner mysteries in the first 5 minutes of knowing them. sometimes I think that having a little mystery in a relationship is quite fun. As for Shel Silverstein, I myself am not a huge fan, but my kids are.

I agree with lonewolf. Walls are built to be torn down. Good luck. TS

I beg to differ. Everyone has something to offer regardless of their past. The past is history, the future is yours.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
