    Only A Voice Mail

They came back from vacation, frantic,
    their daughter missing,
only a voice mail, just one,
    no trace, no evidence, none,
she cried, and he worried more and more,
    blood stains on the floor,
and broken fingernails in the bedroom door,
    unsettling, horrifying,
    mortifying, terrifying,
    everyone crying,
    no evidence left behind,
    no reasons why,
    nothing to go by,
    only a voice mail,
    in this never-ending tale.
