    Poem Commentary

This is based on an extremely haunting personal experience. It has taken years before I could find a way to write about these events and exorcise those demons. I was supposed to be awake for the procedure but was assured repeatedly that I would not feel a thing... The procedure ended up failing on all accounts and I was rushed to the emergency room. Other than still having the same problem I initially went in for, everything is much improved now. The repercussions of the botched surgery were short-lived. I still have struggles daily with my condition, but have learned volumes about life in general from experiences such as these.

    Outpatient (Triolet, Balladeer's class)

It was supposed to be a simple surgery,

When suddenly my body screamed in anguished cries...

The numbing agents seemed so powerless to me.

It was supposed to be a simple surgery.

My inner scars will be the vivid memories.

    "BP's are dropping, thirty-six and twenty-eight!"

It was supposed to be a simple surgery,

When suddenly my body screamed in anguished cries...
