     Playing Hooky

     

     

    Skipping out of work,

    dashing off

    in our car,

    holding hands

    while I drive

    to the far end

    of the island,

    finding a hidden pond,

    picture-perfect.

    We rent a rowboat,

    pushing off the dock,

    I row to the middle

    of the calm water,

    you resting your head

    at the helm,

    your slender feet

    centered in my lap,

    making rowing hard,

    choppy, splashing,

    making you laugh,

    like you did when

    we first dated,

    fully, freely,

    our worries

    a world away

    under a cloudless,

    pale-blue sky

    on this windless day,

    we drift idly along

    with the only sound

    our oars skimming

    over the water.

    You whisper words

    I can’t hear,

    so I move nearer,

    you pull my face

    close and place

    a kiss on my lips,

    rocking our boat,

    we laugh together.

    Very romantic write Charles! :) Playing hooky is essential once in a while - it allows us to focus on what's really important in our lives. Love ...... Nicely written and conveyed. :) Ken
