Poem Commentary

It's been said that if a Ladybug lands on a person, it's good luck. One landed on me recently, and my luck has been on a slight upswing since around then. So here's an ode to those coolest little guys, six months later, lol!
~ De Star De Drift

"The Worst Third of a Day for a Ladybug"

Across some granite and over some fields
Been here before, maybe just yesterday
Yet curiosity to nothing yields
And over another stream and away.

By four streams, a growing sort of dismay
They were likely the same, for those who knew
And energy was falling for the day
When familiar terrain came into view.

Rainclouds were near as the sun came and went
And a fellow hornet was seen astray
Then it was remembered as the breeze lent
Never start exploring late in the day.

Upon a tattered return it was seen
Ancestors along a hillside so crowned
A dangerous day out in the far green
And instinct then, that home was ever found.

Great writing, as usual, Star! Ever since my grandson started coming to visit us, our place is crawling with ladybugs the day he is supposed to get here and until he goes back home; then they just disappear. He is a precious child with a big heart...maybe the ladybugs are smarter than we think, huh? Keep the great stuff comin'!

THE JAMAICAN LADYBUG LOOKS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM THE AMERICAN LADYBUG. THE JAMAICAN LADY BUG HAS AN ELONGATED OR CONVEX -SHAPED BODY , IT HAS BLACK STRIPES ON ITS WINGS , INSTEAD OF BLACK SPOTS, AND ITS HEAD IS HORNED ENDING IN A SORT OF TOUGH PROBOSIS.

This poem is an excellent piece of "pathetic fallacy," wherein the poet gives a human mind to an insect, and then makes an incursion into that mind to sustain the theme of self-preservation and caution, as well as his feelings for, and your keen and sensitive observation of the things and the creatures of Nature, Stardrift ,, you display , as in your other creationsm that you are a perfectionist in your mastery of the iambic pentameter and your impeccable rhyming scheme. My rating for this very sensitive and immaculately crafted piece is 10+

Stardrift, This is a precious poem . The life and times of a ladybug is poignant and their days numbered. I felt that I was there viewing all you say! ginga

Thank you Ginga. Unfortunately and apparently, many species' days are numbered.

so sorry im so late in reading your new one, had a busy week... Are you published, if not, you should be. This was a delightful little romp through the mind of a ladybug, you should do a series of these lol. As all young boys and bugs know, all exploring must be done before suppertime or you run the risk of hunger and cold leftovers. As usual, out of the box imagination meets true poetic talent, great job SD.

Hey, no prob, no prob! I'm not published, are you? We should both probably look into it. However, I do have my no-time, no-money excuse, lol! Thanks Amad for another round of heartfelt compliments. Light bless!

Btw, I commented on Bleak!!

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
