Poem Commentary

How often would we have gone to some imaginary court somewhere as witness for the prosecution in the case of the people against that lawmaker MURPHY! Why he has been given such freedom in my life and yours? Injustice is everywhere and spreading. The front page of this morning's newspaper (with pictures) contrasted the inequity of the justice system. On the left - a man accused of the murder of a young girl. The mother and dad ... clearly in anguish asked WHY? when the motion for bail was granted the accused. (CONTINUED ON COMMENTS ENTRY)

RAINMAKER

Mercy waits in the wings
when it's time that afords the grace
For hope eternal springs
from a clock with a smiling face
We jump and sometimes run
From things not understood

But when clouds have blocked the sun
It's hard to know what's good
Yet still the moon shines on
From the birth of a season to next
And the tide of pain has washed both in and out of context

In the valleys soil is fair and rivers feed the soul
It's in the sum of the halfs plus the whole
We'll gain and then again
Be awed in all at the end
For our Maker of the rain is our provider and dearest friend

Wow this write is extremely deep for me. I understand there to be the heart of existence to be our creator. Yes, through it all rises and falls he is our all and in the end it is he that will be our provider and our dearest friend. Written superbly and with metaphors excelling its meaning. Loved it and I do wish for this to be in the end. Hugz

Thanx cary. Sometimes for the sake of structure and flow meanings can be deciphered to suit the reader according to the energy of the words. At times I get away with what otherwise might be pedantic in scope but if the words are flying they seem to come equipped with a higher import.(And a bigger return.) Mind you there's nothing mundane about the subject of GOD by any stretch. Thanks for the hug! Your a dear.

If the bottom line gets to the ultimate truth, then just take us to the bottom line. I liked the image of the clock with the smiling face, as if time really is on our side. Harv

Ah ...the power of perspective! How about that kids program - - the sun comes up smiling looking around the open fields of opportunity for the little squirts and gives them his blessing as they enter into a new day. Forever young! Why not? Thanks for your comment Harver - have yourself a happy-face day.

I will break away from general concensus (rebellious) to interject Mercy and rain come from the Maker of rain and not so much the rainmaker...I will not major on the minors, though you have a major vein of metaphor and analogy that walk hand-in-hand to bring us through pithy sublimities of necessary paradox. (I find there's little hope for anything made if we willl not seek to know the One who made us) Applause Crescendo!

(:D) ...thank you, thank you. I have to hesitate to throw it out there Marsink... but would rather say- only eternity will tell of the degree of Gods control that was built into each created being's course (since time won't tell.) Thanx for that word.

Thank you tender-lady. I think ... no! I'm sure a title is the single most critical issue for a poem, novel, movie, or play.Seems to me Burt Lancaster made a movie years ago by the name of The Rainmaker. I love those old God based movies even if the theology is off slightly.

We are made of the rain. We are the raindrops that are washed away to be renewed time and again. The maker of rain is the maker of us and in the end the clear water is transparent after the deluge. Love it. A poet friend// RH Peat

Don't you just love the magic that's embodied in WORDS. As my old art teacher said - - Welcome every happy accident because it opens up great possibilities. I mean to say- a lot of times we write and THEN discover what we just said. That's fine with me - I'm an explorer! I'll drop by your place for a read sometime today. Happy New Year!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
