Refueling

Refueling

    Refueling

Even for this short time

being between battles

far off the front lines

away from the warfare

like fighter pilots

after too many missions

rest does not come easy,

relaxation impossible,

for it seems

a lifetime ago

not to have to hear

the constant sound

of bombs exploding

all around us;

now we rendezvous

like long, lost lovers

finding one another

we rush to embrace

learning how to

breathe again

in each other’s arm

getting much needed

recharging of spirits

for this downtime

with you my love

allows us to exist

to carry out our duty

that must be done

knowing our time

together will be short

before we must

force ourselves to go

face our worst fears.
