Poem Commentary

To my ex boyfriend who I lost to drugs and alcohol, I hope one day that you put your life on the right track and if you need help know I dont hold grudges and I am willing to help. I am very against doing both those things, and I know some of you would say its not that big of a deal, but it is. I have lost my Grandma and cousin to drugs and now I have watched this boy go from a straight A student to showing up to maybe one class a day. It dose change you, I wish you all well.

Remember

Remeber?
Remeber me?
The one you used to hold
The one you told so many times that we would be
Forever
The one who protected you
Who tryed to save you
The one who tried to stop you from throwing
The rest of your life away

Do you remeber?
All those nights
We stayed up and talked
For hours on end about nothing at all
All those days spent
Doing nothing but holding eachothers hands
Do you remeber how I tried to save you?
How I tried to save us?

Remember when I cried
When I found you that way?
Remeber when you said
It's nothing baby I'm going to be here for you...

Now I remember
How I lost the battle
I remeber how you changed
And how you used to be
I remember the looks of discust you throw at me
I remember your smile
and the way you laughed
The color of your eyes
and the color of your skin
The intensety in your voice
when you told me it was ok
I remeber your touch
and the feel of your lips on mine
Never to be again
Because of the things you did

I remember
I lost you
The one I tried to save
And I will continue on
Forever hoping that you find your way
one day

And know one day
if you kneed me
I will always be here
Waiting
To save you

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
