    Poem Commentary

A simple poem about simpler times.

    Remembering

Can you remember in the good old days

with soft summer winds and flowers ablaze?

You could climb a tree with branches stout

and see for miles while you lounged about

Can you remember the gently flowing stream

where you could sit for hours and just daydream?

Remembering those wonderful days gone by

brings a smile to your face and you let out a sigh.

Remember when you would pray the rains would end

so you could go outdoors and meet your best friend?

Walking and talking and kicking stones

Picking four leaf clovers and fallen pine cones

Wading in ankle high water in rain filled streets

Stopping at the corner market for your favorite sweets.

Remembering takes you back to simpler times

Like Sunday mornings and the corner church bell chimes.

Remember your old dog and that cantankerous yellow cat

Ballgames in the old field and it’s your turn at bat

The smell of sugar cookies fresh from the oven

Baked by mom with care and a whole lot of lovin

Dad in his chair reading the Gazette’s editorial column

Mom would pass by he’d give her a pat on the bottom

To remember is to savor all the good times that you had

When you were a young budding lass or a lad.

    ∞∞∞∞∞∞

Memories are precious jewels that we collect during our life

Remembering is the key to the treasure chest where they are stored
