Rivers Of Memory OR Lost In Time

Rivers Of Memory OR Lost In Time

I remember
Early childhood days
When it seemed that I wanted
To live forever
On an island all my own
With imaginary friends
Who loved me as I was.

I remember
Early adolescent fantasies
Where I imagined being the fastest runner
To win a race
Being cheered on by pretty girls
While other boys envied me
And wearing ribbons of blue.

I remember
Early adult dreams
When I stood on a pulpit of clouds
Preaching aloud and screaming
Damnation to passing sinners
Seeing myself cowering among them
Shivering in fear at my feet.

I remember
Old-aged regrets
Burying a wife, running from marriages
Begging for help and receiving it
Even as I plotted the heartbreak of my lovers
And clinging to the pieces of my self-made hell.

I sit here now – tired and old
` Drowning in a river of memories
Staring down a barrel
Finally understanding what it means to be
Lost in time.

BANG!

Thank you so much for your compliments. I know that my poettry is rather dark; however I am actually a generally positive and content individual. For whatever reason I have a sense of empathy and identify for those who are in emotional or spiritual pain. If ever you wish to see the sort of tumultuous life from whence the poems are dredged; read "Season In Hell" by the French poet Arthur Rimbauld pronounced Rim- bow. My seems to have been etched in seasons each seeming like complete lives of their. They seem to be tied to the one common denuminator; ME. I enjoyed your pleasure with my works. Sincerely, Justin

THAT WAS A SAD BUT GREAT POEM.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
