Room in the Heart

Poem Commentary

Note: I am not the protagonist in this piece nor do I know him or her personally; but many of these people exist and have the capacity and desire to help a homeless child.

Room in the Heart

Room in the Heart
You're far too young to be
so terribly aware
that nature can be cruel
so cruelly unfair
Yet so much of your life
will begin each tomorrow
another lesson to learn:
don't waste life on sorrow
Your family was lost to a tragedy.
My family is a distant brother
We may be a perfect match, you and I.
We each have a need for the other
I have the perfect rooms for you
in my home, my life and my heart
In the end though it's your decision
just where your new life will start.
All I ask is your trust and love
Easier asked, I know, than done
but I'll earn that trust,
I'll earn that love . . .
and anticipate the day I can call you my son.

Jericho, icu2, Thanks for your comments! Yes, I believe this is what every son should hear from his father; even if he doesn't realize it. So right! Your words and actions stay with a child way into adulthood.

This is a really good piece of work.. Believe it or not, but this is what every son wants to hear from their father. At least that's the way I see it.

If only parents would realize while they are little that they will soon be big. What we give them, if it be snotty remarks, or kind words...I will go with them forever. Cause and effect. You certainly are a poet.

Sorry, I am in a hurry. I meant "If only parents would realize that while their children are little, they will soon be big...lol

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
