Shards of Me

Shards of Me

I was once a proud man,

But now I see not the point

Numbing the anguish,

Escaping reality,

I roll another joint

The music doesn’t ease me,

Like it did once before

I opened my heart,

Exposed my soul,

But left feeling of a whore

I can hear you knocking,

But haven’t the strength to make the door

I close my mind,

My perception refined,

I am lost forevermore

Once I was a happy man

Young, careless, and free

My emotions lay tattered,

Love and hope shattered

Into shards of unrecognizable debris

There's an old gay cliche "The best were but a dream." that I think might be used here to describe the sad experiences you've related here. (I'm NOT saying that you're gay...not that there's anything wrong with being gay!) Nicely done.

Humpty dumpty had a great fall. We all are humpty one point in our lives. I alway picked myself up. dusted myself off... and started all over again.. And hope i had learned something from the fall. Great write.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
