many a tear has been cried
many a sigh has been sighed
many a wound has been suffered
many a heart has been buffered

putting one's self in place of a child
protecting an innocent from the wild
they do not look before they leap
they will not cover their eyes but peek

understanding danger does not scare
away the fear, they stand and blindly stare 
while the danger lurks so closely, so near
the young ones do not recognize the face of fear

how can you protect one so innocent
like lambs to slaughter they were sent
trustingly they went where they were told
linked together by the hands they  hold

there stands brick buildings where eternity awaits
a line of people back across the yard know their fate
the very old, the very young, all in between now stands
passively awaiting to be taken to slaughter holding hands

was a chamber full of deadly clouds of gas
or, better to die than a torrent full of bullets
is it easier to take one last wicked gasp for air
or one last desperate dash to escape to freedom

poor lambs, being led to slaughter by the enemy
but, like a wolf, should they have stood their ground
what would make the difference,to their destiny?
to die like a lamb or die like a wolf?

Will we be known for "Silence of the Lambs"
Or will we be known for "Howling of the Wolves"
