SO LONG AGO

Poem Commentary

None of us are the same people we were 20 years ago or more. Fortunately, most people have faced responsibility, grown, changed, and focused on what is good and right in life. God has long forgiven us, yet society holds over our heads the stupid mistakes and errors in judgment that were made so long ago. Good people can and do make bad decisions and the consequences can continue to haunt people and stand in the way of achieving goals they work very hard for. Sometimes it can be real frustrating and depressing. This is dedicated to those who've been there, done that, got the t-shirt, and wish they could throw the damn thing away.

SO LONG AGO

Time should assuage the struggle

Of debts now long since paid

Yet no righting wrongs so long ago

Transgressions long since made

Many a season hath passed us by

Though it matters not to most

Those bridges burned so long ago

Continue haunting like a ghost

Invective defamation

Facing judgment every day

What God forgave so long ago

Man won’t concede to fade away

Eyes can scarcely seek the future

With no freedom from the past

Few see that mold so long ago

Has completely been recast

Fatigued by futile efforts

Determined steps show no advance

Shadowed by life so long ago

The pale mirage of second chance.

You can rise above each struggle...When you place your trust in Him...God sees the candle burning brightly...And also growing dim...Yet, He has specific missions...For each of us to do...And often burdens will be many...Until life on earth is through...Everyday, our spirit is learning....Lessons we will need someday...Virtues that are golden...So we're not led astray...THEN,..when the Lord receives us..And our spirit yearns to soar....Each struggle will be made clear to us...When we reach that golden shorel....

forgivness does not seem to be a strong human trait - people only remember the bad stuff, never the good - and always have a way of reminding you of the mistakes - a true assesment of peoples way of thinking

When wonder dies within man's eye's....Then man, indeed, is old.....When man can look upon the skies,...It's mysteries are untold..And in his heart and soul feel not....A sense of wonder begin...I've read your poem and proud to post..The highest score of ten.....GREAT WORK!!...

Julie, I like that your advice to move on with life is stated in a frame of subtle regret yet gives some hope to move on. ginga

"Yea without sin cast the first stone " This is what so called humans need to remember before they open there mouths. In the south they dont pass judgement they brand you . You have written a poem that the content has been touched many times . You did it with style and grace . Loved and agree wtih every word Marie

Thank you Marie! And as I am from the deep south I know all about branding! Kind words appreciated.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
