    Poem Commentary

What will a man do to bring happiness into his life?

    Spanish Fly

    Oh! Spanish Fly?
    Open the loins of love.
    Allow my girth to succumb.
    Filling her exposed glove.

    Oh! Spanish Fly?
What are your rules of engagement?
Was she willing before your affectionate bite.
Might love have been her intention.

    Oh! Spanish Fly?
What brought me to your doorstep?
Have I become so weakened by chase?
    I implore this evil cunning.
    Have my senses been replaced?

    Oh! Spanish Fly?
    Engorged proboscis.
    Waiting to explode.
Time will tell when love prevails.

    Oh! Spanish Fly?
    Does this encounter have longevity?
Do you bring another fleeting moment?
Leaving the breath of regret upon my lips.
And continued sorrow on my heart.

It sounds formal yet passionate and odd in a good way. I might not be understanding all of it due to me taking things too literally sometimes. Great Poem!

I'm glad you got my point this being an attempt at eluding to the desperation of longing for love...... Thanks for the comment....

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
