    Poem Commentary

no matter how much we have, we're delusional if we think its enough

    Star Burning Bright

angel kissed you in your sleep,
you woke up lying next to me,
we washed out before we knew,
this love was ours, if only untrue,
nothing spoke to my wicked self,
my tormented host of vague and unfailing dreams,
i wish, as im kneeling before my  Mountain of Regret,
paying tithe to my history of misbegotten deeds,
time travel back and claim that seed,
    so spoiled and young,
    two cutthroat travelers,
stealing moments of lust from envious crowds,
willing to die for one second of adulation,
now haunting ghostly visions of intense reverie,
    alone and lying to myself,
    surrounded by all the treasures,
that have damned me to someone's version of hell,
i bleed aloud but no one hears,
    silently mouth the words,
    someone stop me,
pain that echoes and settles behind my right pupil,
    a thrumming coalition,
i drive too fast tonight, i know ill be fine,
supernova into a black hole of glory,
living without you by my side,
even the hope of waking soon dies,
    blisters rise on old sensations
i scratch at skin deep penetrations,
    i chose my own nightmares,
i fed the demons in my head,
with drugs and dreams and dread,
    took the straightest, highest road,
    to the longest, loneliest peak,
    felt more human flesh,
than any man should ever seek,
engulfed in the personality ive created,
the memory of you is keen,
    sift through the detritus,
    unclean oceans of salt,
could never scrape away the guilt,
i imagine, ill wake up and poison slowly,
ill do damage to these unwanted emotions,
heartache and fear, regret like a river,
lounge in the pool with a drink in hand,
sycophants racing to my every demand,
    torching everything i own,
laughing as the blaze climbs and climbs,
left with nothing and searching out you,
    traveling to the desert,
and the promise of something new.
