    Status Quo

    It has been awhile

    Since some dilettante wrote

    Of the winds, winds

    Of the bloomin’ same

     

    Shame really, bloomin’ shame

    The winds of change

    They get the press

    Something about stark drama

     

    I guess, but then

    I don’t really know

    Why would anyone write

    About nothing ever happening?

     

    Something is always happening

    Write about that, then

    Document, improvise, but dammit

    When just nothing happens

     

    Then in the still

    Anything can fit, anything!

    Except something that moves

    That would cause change.

     

    Same zephers will remember

    Status quo be damned

    Blinking back beginner’s tears

    I never meant harm. . . .

    Thought provoking, and a little enigmatic... but I'm definitely drawn to this. If I'm interpreting correctly, this is the direct result of a nasty bout with writer's block? Maybe my brain cells are still trying to thaw from the morning drive... haha! Regardless, this is nicely written and I enjoyed it tremendously. I'll be back to read again, that's for sure :)

    Well, some preach change but cannot change the course of a mighty river; it is easier said than done, especially if the river is flowing within its banks. You can only bend steel if you are stronger than steel and a bundle of sticks will never bend. You have painted a fine picture of normalcy, Harv.

Harver, there is a term for the technigue wherein stanzas somewaht interlock to achieve a tight unity and continuous flow of idea. I can't pluck it from my memory just now, But I see where you have cleverly and competently used it in this poem, particularly in stanzas 3 and 4. It seems dominant in the human mind to be sceptical about change,hence the popular pessimistic remark, .."The more things chnge, the more they seem the same"

    Not sure why I got several partial comments, so I'll respond to this most complete one. Any form of leadership must break loose the rust of inertia in order to move toward progress. Sometimes the management must be fired first. Like the calculus, one never actually divides by zero, but can closely approximate it. So Rose Ann Rosannadana was right.(Vintage SNL comedienne) it really"always is SOMETHING. thanks for your comments. Harv

    Harver, a very tight little construction here. You missed a rhyme opportunity - and this is just a suggestion. "Anything can fit, and anything will". Then you could drop the exclamation point as it ties in directly with the next line. Of course, I only offer this as a suggestion. I realize that we need to guard our little creations because we sometimes see things in them that others don't. I see this is in the contest, and merits a 10 in my book.
