    Poem Commentary

    I'm eagerly anticipating summer

    Sweat In My Eye

    Sweat in My Eye
    <img src="http://hoboken411.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/hoboken-heat-wave.jpg" height="150" width="250" alt="Heat Wave" />
    Everyone gripes
    about the heat
    the heat it seems
    has them beat
    The crying's even louder
    about humidity
    to me the complaints
    are pure stupidity
    Each drop of sweat
    that runs in my eyes
    just reminds me how fast
    the summer flies
    Too soon that cold
    I so notably hate
    will consume my world
    and seal my fate
    to days of chill
    and nights of freeze
    the runny nose
    and the endless sneeze
    I'll take that sweat
    every day in my eye
    and never gripe
    never cry

    Everyone gripes
    about the heat
    the heat it seems
    has them beat
    :::
    The crying's even louder
    about humidity
    to me the complaints
    are pure stupidity
    :::
    Each drop of sweat
    that runs in my eyes
    just reminds me how fast
    the summer flies

    Too soon that cold

    will consume my world
    and seal my fate

    I love you wit. I hear you but I'd rather bundle up to keep warm than sweat. I'm a NH native......

    I'm a Chicago boy (many years ago now) perhaps that's why I dislike (dislike is an understatement) being cold -- I had too much of it.

    Ahh! You're a lady with great climate preferences. It's been a bad winter even here in Dallas -- I can't imagine how bad it must be in New Hampshire. Thanks for commenting.

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
