    sweet nothing

a thousand times this scene has played
stuck inside the bed we've made
where dying love is thus portrayed
    promised love again betrayed

her broken heart is calling out
first a whisper then a shout
    rejected and consumed by doubt
but always she will go without

with cold backs turned to one another
    desperate need kept under cover
    little light so quickly smothered
    indifference is a shitty lover

    trying to remove my mask
so vulnerable to have to ask
as thought it were some mundane task
to let me in your love-light bask

what was offered you was sweet
    but your denial is complete
my exiled heart in shamed retreat
    will only ever taste defeat

tracks of silent tears I've wept
stain the pillow where I slept
though the vows were always kept
long ago I should have left

all these years you've made me bleed
    punished me for feeling need
love should never have to plead
    or self-expression so concede

    lessons learned, but not forgot
your apathy has taught a lot
your love will not again be sought
it was always all for naught

OMG! Each line screams out the burning passion in which you write. I can truly appreciate the last stanza. You have a way to reel in such devotion from the reader to be applied to your writings. I love the way this poem felt within. You are absolutely GREAT!

I love your writing! I seem to be a hard one to make cry but this one got to me and made it happen. I've felt everything you wrote about. Thank you for sharing this with us.

wow I have goose bumps knowing how many of us coop these feelings up for years. This is a scary-good poem. Ginga

You could have written this about my first marriage tenderpoison but there is no way I could have ever put it into the words that you have, but you have touched upon the sadness and the longing and the rejection like I never could, it is as if we lived each others lives, and we both deserve a 10 just for enduring on...

the ryhming is excellent and the content is very strong. this is one of the better pieces I've read since joining recently. I will be reading more of your work.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
