  • Hi Poets let this be a great year for writing!

Poem Commentary

Apropos for the season and a torch song upon returning here.

taskmaster

taskmaster

relegated tasks undone

table's set, a stained teacup

beckons. clean or leave?

no one to notice but me.

relegated tasks undone

I dress slowly, notice

spilt flour, toast crumbs,

gingerly I step over them.

relegated tasks undone

clock cuckoos twelve chimes,

noon, coffee grounds wetted then wasted,

no refill anytime soon.

relegated tasks started

an engine sounds, a car

parks, then leaves, out of

the trunk sticks an evergreen.

 relegated tasks abominate

my day, I pull on left sock,

then boot, watch the snow fall.

wind drifts, fingers numb.

relegated tasks cease to exist

salt, pepper shakers nearly empty.

one apple, one slice of bread,

remains for future sustenance.

relegated tasks haunt this night,

never end right.

I sit amongst piled bags

readied to deliver to poor kids.

relegated tasks ignored

stemware waits,

champagne is poured.

I celebrate another new year.

relegated tasks disappear

windowsill cactus blooms red,

I write sentence on a pad,

snow outside grows deep.

all relegated tasks cancelled

I leave my house at three,

nightlight's lit, bed unmade,

to never return or a taskmaster be.

Ginga! Your hand always flows so smooth. This is something we can all relate to. Life is full of relegated tasks. What is important to us is often trivial to our society, but I blame the society for teaching us to be dishonest with ourselves. Be true to yourself! Great write!

I love the contemporary essence of life itself. Being myself, I can take off and run with the face value of this poem, yet I find many more outlets that lead to a wild imagination...Indeed, the imagery created here, is simply mesmerizing. I am so glad for the opportunity to read your work once again. Your work is amazing.

Ah, the life of a poet in a day, chronicled with creative perfection; the recognition of all life, all tasks. Beautifully composed and wide open with feelings. Bravo! "I leave my house at three, nightlight's lit, bed unmade, to never return or a taskmaster be" —rejoicing over this closing!
