The Candle That Burns Too Quickly

The candle that burns too quickly
Has a fervent flame that devours air
    Like many a starved jackal.
This candle who's fire burns brighter
By minute, brings about a waste of wax
    With a shrewd wanton shrug.

How glorious, and great this solar torch
Rears its head, for one grand moment.
    This illumination bright, and bold
As a beacon point, is short seen
And furiously fast in its fading.

Then sight is lost to a darkened room.
The walls reflect stained and strained bleakness.
And where there once was light
Now is simply black and burnt remains,
    Leaving hearts hollowed
    By a quickened candle's
    Insatiable consumption toward searing glory.

Bird, Ode to candlelight is my first reaction. A flame in all its forms and juxtapositions. The descriptions here are simply elegant. I really enjoyed this and can feel its heat burning in the afterglow! ginga

You are cursed with the sight. I feel for you.and with you. As life kicks us we stand. Don't forget to stand!

This is a piece for those who lose sight of the need for endurance.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
