The Circle of Death

The Circle of Death
(Street Gang Life)
Anger
Fueled by ideals
Compounded by defeat
A deadly trinity complete
Peace
An endangered species
Begs negotiation
Needs resuscitation
Compromise
A dirty word?
Scorned as sin
Some never give in
Counting
The dead and injured
As they were counted
The toll mounted
Tears
Recriminating floods
Sons and daughters die
Hopes and dreams fly
Winners
Lose integrity
Gain enmity
No serenity
Redux
The fight goes on
Can't catch a breath
That's the circle of death
The wars on the streets of our cities, to our peril, may never know an end.

It's almost over. Soon the clarion call will alert the children of God that it is finished. Good poem.

Ah, the inner city. Everything starts in the mind, the emotions and then action. And it all depends on how we learn, doesn't it? Or IF we learn. We get out pretty much what we put in...

Very true: We get out pretty much what we put in applies to every situation and that applies, in every case to, ALL involved parties.

Wonderful write. I'm pretty sure the analysis would be exactly the same. the violence has escalated as we become a more technological society. In ten years things have not improved much.

Thank you! So right -- in the past ten years the scene has changed from "turf wars" to drug wars and the weaponry has escalated.

Poetry is what is lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
