The Dark Lover

The Dark Lover

Whatcha think?
I wake up from a dream,
Your name on my lips,
Let out on a scream,
Barely held back by my fingertips,
Something brushed up against my skin,
Causing me to shake,
To fight the monster within,
Its just a dream I say this till I ache,
Thoughts darkened even more,
I hear you breathing,
Right out my door,
This nightmare is not leaving,
I see the doorknob twist ever so slow,
Hold my breath,
Close my eyes expecting some painful blow,
But tonight you are not my death,
You pull away,
Done teasing,
No need to stay,
If you aren't taunting,
Footsteps retreating down the hall,
I can breathe again,
Opening my eyes and leaning back against the wall,
No more imagined pain,
But as my eyes open wide,
I scream my last breath in fright,
And you take my soul from inside,
For you had indeed come for me this very night.I wake up from a dream,
I wake up from a dream,
Your name on my lips,
Let out on a scream,
Barely held back by my fingertips,

Something brushed up against my skin,
Causing me to shake,
To fight the monster within,
Its just a dream I say this till I ache,

Thoughts darkened even more,
I hear you breathing,
Right out my door,
This nightmare is not leaving,

I see the doorknob twist ever so slow,
Hold my breath,
Close my eyes expecting some painful blow,
But tonight you are not my death,

You pull away,
Done teasing,
No need to stay,
If you aren't taunting,

Footsteps retreating down the hall,
I can breathe again,
Opening my eyes and leaning back against the wall,
No more imagined pain,

But as my eyes open wide,
I scream my last breath in fright,
And you take my soul from inside,
For you had indeed come for me this very night...

This is (already) a Gothic classic: dark and passionate. Bravo!

Thanks ^-^

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
