The Drought

Poem Commentary

It has been so hot here in Texas, we have been averaging in the 100's all summer.  The wild turkeys are having to come up for water now.

The Drought

It's so dry
I water and see the foilage die
Oh, for the rain, oh for the snow
La Ninya where'd you go.

I don't want to live in a desert
the ground is so hot
the livestocks feet hurt!
Cool, today I am not!

Is there no relief
from this sweltering heat!
A well or a cool spring
this would be a good thing.

The dawg days of summer are these
I can't wait for the rain.
Can we get a cool day, please?
before Texas turns into a dessert plain.

We got a little snow this year. Just about a quarter of an inch. LOL not enough to even make a decent snow man. Sorry it is so cold up your way, I'll be cooking at about 100 degrees by June. One extreme or the other. guess we are never happy....Write on....

A very nice well written work pertaining to the southern dawg days of heat, Indian Summer as some like to call it. Great write.

I feel for you as I live in the south too. But I know TX is even hotter. One does long for the water on those days.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
