Poem Commentary

Written for a stage play with the central theme of forgiveness. Forgive and be forgiven - for your own peace...

THE GRUDGE (c) Copyright 2013

When was the last time someone hurt you?
Or stepped on your toes?
Maybe betrayed you, or left you alone?
Broke your heart and protected their own?

When was the last time you crieD
from the depths of your soul?
Or fought back tears, but could no longer hold
them back?

Back when you wore your heart on your sleeve
When showing your vulnerabilities came easy
Tears that flowed because you’ve been broken
Heartaches and pains that perhaps have never been spoken

Think about that one person or persons
Those perpetrators of pain
Those who left a stain,
on your heart...

With that thought in mind
And in the passage of time
Between that moment and now...
Have you forgiven them?

Or does your conscience feel a little nudge
That maybe you’ve been holding a grudge all this time?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
