Poem Commentary

D-I-V-O-R-C-E find out what it means to me....my freedom and such sweet release....

the last word

you tore my fragile heart apart
played cruel games inside my head
convinced me I was always wrong
made me wish that I were dead

so impossible to ever please
but still I had to try
beat my heart against your wall
like a hell-bent butterfly

you never could enjoy the ride
you always had to drive
my personal raving tyrant
made everything contrived

I've known there was no love here
for quite a long, long time
so I quietly rebuilt myself
with you on the outside

now you have no hold on me
because I was never held
like oil and water the two of us
are never going to meld

but still I cannot hate you
you're too pitiful for that
your love's a ruse, a sad excuse
just something you play at

I thought my walls were sturdy
but yours are thicker still
I thought my damage deeper
but yours cannot be filled

you're stubborn and you're angry
you've pushed me to the wall
you try to tell me who to be
but I am not your thrall

the shit you've tried to stain me with
can't find a place to stick
though accused I'm innocent
you're deluded - twisted - sick

you've threatened me with leaving
don't you know that I don't care
I'll be less lonely once you're gone
than I was while you were here

you've denied my right to be myself
for all these empty years
used me up to gratify
your baseless, selfish fears

I'm not waiting anymore
for change to roll my way
don't need a sign or omen
there will be no more delay

I laid upon your altar
sacrificed by choice
now I've risen from it
with the truth of my own voice

so let me make just this one thing
perfectly crystal clear
there's nothing you can do or say
I'm gone, I'm out of here

one last thought to leave you with
while you contemplate my goodbye
I'm so completely over you
there's not a single tear to cry

A well-written poem. The passion and emotions are well deciphered! To end your poem with welcomes of feeling more refined was absolutely great! "Not a single tear to cry" Vividly expressed! Great Job!!!!!!

Wonderful poem!!! The flow was excellent, and the rhyme superb! Loved it. Especially the tenth stanza. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. 10

Getting caught up on some spring cleaning huh? Good for you!!! Now go live a little!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
