    The Mistake

driving down the road I see
    troubled waters up ahead
    even closer now I get
I can feel that awful dread

I glance around to take it in
my past is just around the bend
my pounding heart tells me so
and I pull over to see a friend

I take the flowers from my car
with my tears, I lose the fight
I lay them by the wooden cross
that's been there since that awful night

You trusted me to get you there
I took a drink just one you see
Now I stand here all alone
    wishing you were visiting me

The words are brutally sad for an incident I wish you are only creating as a poem.........because dui is one of the latest epidemics where there is no recourse.......at least where I live.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
