    THE PROUD CHESTNUT TREE

    July 19, 2009

A chestnut tree was standing proud,
Surveying... far as he could see.
And thinking all the other trees
Were not as grand as he.

He had more nuts than all the rest.
    And many came to pick..
He truly was the best of trees,
    His crop was always thick..

One day a blight came to the land.
    A fungus dread disease.
The chestnut watched as trees were killed.
As far as he could see.

Soon he was bitter to the roots
    because he stood alone.
    None to compare his grandeur with;
    He had no earthly throne.

As time went by, more bitter he.
    And feeling death inside,
He could not hide the sickness there
    Nor bitter fungus hide.

A root of bitterness we find
    Contaminates us all.
And let us not forget God’s “WORD”
    Pride goes before a fall.

I agree that pride goes before a fall. Eloquently put in words your message shines clear.

thank you so very much Gentle T

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
