THE SMILE ON THAT USHER

Opening the doors and leading them to their seats,

All while brightening the sanctuary with the smile that she keeps.

To be welcomed by this usher is to be greeted by GOD,

For she puts some extra effort in those spiritual duties,

And humbly serves within her kingdom building job.

Making those, whom are visiting, feel welcomed truly,

And making those members feel GOD’S love once again.

For they all couldn’t wait to get to church on Sunday,

To witness that smile, on that usher as she welcomed them in.

Really liked this one too, Orson. This is something all ushers should read, so they see just how important their role is. It's true, they are the first to welcome people in and their attitude can determine whether someone stays or leaves, feels the love of God upon entering or not. Their role may seem insignificant, but they are very valuable in the kingdom of God. Do you mind if your works are shared with other people outside of this site as long as your name is included with them?

Please feel welcomed to share these poems with anyone you like to. I wrote them to be share, and as a ministry tool as well.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
