    The Sweet Escape

    she lays in her bed
    her pillow stained with tears
the man lying next to her
    the only one she fears
    alone in the world
    nowhere else to go
    unable to reach out
    no one can know

    make-up and long sleeves
    keep the world at bay
    begging for the strength
    to fight another day
a prisoner in her own home
    held captive with no release
longing for the day to arrive
when she may live in peace

    an easy way out
    the option is there
    desperate to escape
    her life of despair
    a glimmer of hope
    reflects from the blade
never again will she fall victim
    never again to be afraid

as far as poetry goes this is well written. has the flow with good rhyming and word choice. as far as the message. a very tough subject. have seen too much of it in my life. this poem is very hard for me to read. i get that sick feeling....

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
