    the time is now

    the heart beats
unsteadily pumps crimson life onto the asphalt
    the mind wanders
hazy memories, and shards of the past procure an unending flow of misery
    cold
lying on the street, the sun has set, the moon seems to slalom the whispy clouds illuminating a halo of blurry vision
    pain
the wounds won't heal...slowly he drifts...passes into the night.

    walking
the train will not wait, the frigid call of the ticketman chills him...chills all of him...as if the only thing he were was a soul.
    boarding
a train that is headed toward the dull, unique shade of red, glowing in the distance.
    where?
    he knows where he's headed
he's headed to the new place to be
a place of blood and fire
    soon...it will begin

Very nice imagery! I have read many pieces tonight but this, by far, is my favorite. I found your choice of words as mesmerizing as the layout and you leave the reader breathless...which is a talent all it's own. Gripping write. Thanks for sharing. Bj

This is deep and thought provoking. I like the dramatic feel and the title is right on. Should that "time" come "now" would my soul be ready to make that trip? Excellent poetry! Love, Robin

Really liked the imagery. Good Depth.

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
