These Eyes

These Eyes

Windows open to a constant view

Sometimes green, gray, or blue

Their colors changing throughout the day

As your moods seem to stray

A reference to your passing thought

Looking for a memory that can’t quite be caught

The soul’s doorway to the living

A gift that is forever giving

Catching light and casting spells

Holding on to what one never tells

Sending words with a simple glance

Then drifting off into a blissful trance

These eyes are blessings that can make you cry

Or smile when closed forever for one last goodbye.

Inspiring me to want to write about the window to the soul! A fair of sumptuous texture in describing the delicacy and demand of the eyes! Applause!

Ah yes - you are certainly referring to your own green eyes. The mystery and hidden beauty. Nice piece.

Nice poem, Jamie. Good couplet rhyme and the last line bespeaks it is an elegy, one last goodbye.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
