    • I am here, heart in hand, ready to share time and poems ith anyone who will give me the time in their day.

    This Is My Kingfdom

     I have a memory
    I hold so dear.
    It is great-grandpa
    Whispering in my ear.

    Look around you
    And you will see,
    All that is here,
    Belongs to me.

    With his arms in the air
    'Round the room he gestures
    This is my kingdom, and
    These are my treasures

    When I look around the room
    I see remnents of 93 years
    Of all the happiness in his life
    And all the times that brought him tears

    A photo album lays covered with dust
    An old bird cage sits sadly still
    Get well cards perched on the chest
    A pot with violets on the window sill

    This room now holds his kingdom
    He shall leave it no more
    Here lie his earthly treasures
    Like shells upon the shore

    Being only a small child
    I never gave it a thought
    Now I am in my twilight years
    I understand the feelings wrought

    Funny how back then, when we would visit the grand parents, they always had photos that they would bring out and reminisce over. It seemed that their whole world was the living room and all the old memories there..........A Lovely one.........................g

    I liked this a lot Mandi. I, too, have lots of fond memories of my grandparents. I remember their old musty basement, which was more like a cellar. All the treasures they had down there. What a childhood adventure it was rummaging through all that stuff. And they grew grapes in their backyard. Wild grapes, on vines that climbed their old chain linked fence. We would pick them and eat them to our hearts delight. They were great. Yeah I miss them and understand your delight. Thanks for reminding me of them and sharing your wonderful poem...Kevin

    I haveanother which is one of my favorites about the peonies in my grandmother's garden and my grandfather's pet parakeet of which he was so fond
