Tomorrow My Dream

Tomorrow My Dream

Tomorrow my dream

And take my heart ravished

Tonight I lay vacant

Crumbling, my mortar decayed

It’s only the ivy that holds me

In place

Closing my eyes

I see only your face

Expressionless, waxen

Like snuffed candle soot

Smoking out the half-life

Between fire and ice

Counting them, and them

More disappointed than jealous

I didn’t need you then

How did they tire

Of induced fibrillations

Slow burning your hips?

Perfidy poses

Arrogant, heedless

Impervious to tears, after all

Did they not see you?

Or merely own you?

Until simply bored with it all

Enter sopranos

Always sopranos

Singing what never gets said

Gestures to footlights

Running mezzanine eyes

O’er empty boxes

No one arrives

Until after the love songs

Leave their bathos

Coloring the silence

Beseeching applause

His bravos echoing

Exiting now, the sopranos

Busily dressing

Doors opportune avenues

Filled with conveyance

Tomorrow my dream

Driving one-way streets.

Harver, I dare say this poem rocks my world. In that it's shrouded in its own private scene of what if, and what not, and live life to the fullest, even as the soprano sings their torch song...It's all good and glorious and exceptionally titillating. 10+ ginga

It is not what is known, but what is hoped that this poem is about. But you knew that. Harv

What I love about this write, besides the sheer brilliance of the thing, is that the meaning can be conveyed as someone who has been lost(like a love) or- I read it again with the perception, that the subject had lost a piece of who they once were- Im way into that concept, since we are continually reinventing ourselves.(Im actually working on a couple poems dealing with this, now) any ways- I loved it, really deep, and poetically visual!-Maddi

Thank you Maddi, a bit of a rare comment left for me, but I bet you've visited here before. I am humbled by your appreciation so stated. Harv

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
