    Poem Commentary

It' s just been too long since I've had a written poem

    Untitled

    When you turn around
    Who is that behind you?
Bury your claws into the darkness and shred the night
    The raindrops turn to teardrops
of blood and trickle down your cheek
If you have a place to return to
    Stop on this finger
    I'll take you away
    Along with this finger
Where the evening cicadas cry in the forbidden forest
Where you cannot turn back anymore

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
