    Poem Commentary

Dont let nothing stop you, keep trying!

    Wadling in pain

Seized by pity and overwhelmed with pain and trying very hard to be a good man
Predestined to fail by the system at hand
This world can not define me as a man
Too much sin, poverty, and disease to knock the biggest, strongest, man to his knees.
Lied to, cheated, abuse, and hurt, beaten, locked up, trying to eat without work.
Ambition extracted from visions of hoop dreams
Or tormenting our bodies on professional football teams
Taught to use drugs instead of learning how to cope
Emotionally sick, without resources of hope
Raped by our parents of all creativity's
Never suppose to look beyond what we see
Raised by a standard to work twice as hard
While watching their marriages all fall apart

This was a good poem. It expresses the hole black men have to climb out of before the race for your dreams even starts. A lot of emotion is pack in your words.

[Never suppose to look beyond what we see] - That's it. That's it right there. Blindfold left on too long and you start to think the darkness is the reality. Nice piece.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
