Wandering in the Night

Poem Commentary

Silent creatures wander in the night....

Wandering in the Night

A step in the darkened field she took
Glancing my way as I went by
Grazing dangerously close to death
She was graceful yet terribly shy

Hidden she thought by the night
Chancing the obstacles near
Nourishment needed to sustain her
For no one is feeding the deer

Eyes shine in the glare of the lights
Statuesque she dare not move
If she stays very still in the darkness
Her safety surely will prove

Swiftly she runs deep in the woods
Joining the family there
In the comfort of the herd
Protection is theirs to share

I love this Purple swan! I adore the ending of this write. So true of the beautiful Deer. The most popular to see at times in the distance only to see it run quickly away. No wonder it is scared of man, just look at us? How barbaric we can be! I loved it!TEN for sure!

Brilliant poem my friend, very well written and has a great flow, very natural. Your words bring us not only into the moment but give us the eyes of the poor deer as we stand there shaking in our boots hoping you don't run us over, lol. great write my friend, bravo! Purity of the soul, journey well!!! Angel aka the poem buster

Way to go, Swan.........you saved a deer's life........that has to be truly frightening for a deer to look into the glare of headlights on a dark deserted wood's edge..........Love, it................................g

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
