    What Kills Me

I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders.
My burdens grow heavier with each step I take.
I can no longer determine enemy from foe.
I can't tell who is a snake, lying in wait.
I walk through mine fields blindfolded,
stumble through life alive, but not living.
Tears from my sorrows could form a river.
    I'm surrounded by people,
    yet I am alone.
My smile, stretched wide, when you look at me.
    You don't see me,
you only see what my pride will let you see.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
