When Peonies Last Bloomed in the Garden
The scent of lilacs graced the house my father grew up inPeonies last bloomed in the garden many years ago
Roses held fast to the trellis below the garden window.
But a mere child, I revelled in the attention from my family
Being the first and only grandchild
Familial love wrought, in a time of world peace
Harmony was abundant in the world
It was then, the little bird, who knew freedom only
Within the walls of my great-grandfather's parlor
Yearned for that which was beyond
With no caution, leaving safety behind
The small green" favored one" flew out an opened door
Never to be seen again, breaking an old man's heart
In a time, so long ago, such were the heartaches of substance
