Poem Commentary

A Vicious cycle...

"Yesterday's Future Present"

Yesterday's Future Present

They said...

There will be no secure lodgings...
no safe havens.
Apocalypse now...
revolutionaries brazen...

just as savage as cavemen...
guns a blazin'.
Human propensity to shed blood's amazin'

Hearts are vacant.
Poison darts are blatant.
What's the difference between sharks...
smelling blood and today's men?

We believe the children are the future...
yet we mold and shape them...
to only feel safe when...

they've got the power...so if lives aren't there's...
it's okay to take them....
and when lives aren't fair...
it's okay to take them.

Suicide bomb...
suicide's haven...
suicide's craved when...
they themselves hate them.

Life's stock plummets daily...
livestock equates them...
human cattle to the slaughter house...
do you get a prize if you take them?
.
.
.
.
Eyes open daily...
I shutter and shake them...
trying to get some brown back from that green...
when society jades them.
.
.
.
.
I have seen the mountain top...
but we won't get there...
our wound festers hot...
but we don't give care...
.
.
.
.
We laugh now at yesterday's malcontents...
lack of moral content made them even less benevolent.
They dug deep but somewhere the shovel bent...
so a crooked path we follow to the smoke with the hellish scent.

lessons never learned...from their faults...we never went.

Those poor souls...yes those malcontent peasants...
our lives are enriched...we dine on doves and pheasants.
They paved the way...now everything's pleasant...

or is it?

Yesterday's future is present.

that was very deep. it's so true. I sometimes think to myself what is this world coming to, and how will it be 10, 20 years from now. kind of scary. very good.

The title says it all!-and so do you-with that ease to keep the reader(me) hanging on every line! You have brought up some perfect analogies about this 'world' in which we dwell..you have a great ability to bring focus on REAl issues we are facing globally. You have a poem, can't remember which one..and it pretty much says-that you have veiwed so much human hatred and pain, that you dont even want to waste your time talking about it-because the issue goes unchanged! I know that feeling.-but Malick, my good friend, I am so frickin glad-that you do drag it out in the streets for people to smell their rot! You Malick, are the voice of tomorrow, my dear, you just dont know it yet!-ps-thanx for the house, but now Im gonna need a garage!!-LOL,Maddi

thank you Maddi. I am glad you have taken a liking to the truth telling...I was thinking of taking on a new pen name...maybe The Journalist? lol I will go around reporting all the ills of the world with a hint of rhyme. What do you think? A garage ey? Are you driving the kudos now? lol. I appreciate you stopping by as always :)

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
