    You Stole My Smile

I looked toward our dreams, sharing tomorrow's.
I sit here today with a heart full of sorrow.

In my head there's confusion, no peace of mind,
On my face the tracks of my tears, are easy to find.

With each beat of my heart I see memories of you,
You were my everything, my happiness too.

What you did to me that night, I'll have to live with a while
With seven little words, you stole my smile.

I thought you were happy you sure seemed to be,
But what you wanted most, was just to be free.

You wouldn't show it, but I saw subtle signs
When you'd hear of a party, I'd see your eyes shine.

When we got together I made no restraints.
Lord knows I knew, that you were no saint.

You said that you loved me, then you changed your style,
But with those seven little words, you stole my smile.

Only time will tell what I'll do with my life
Right now I'm still missing the love of a wife.

The way she would whisper, when I'd hold her close,
How she always knew, what I needed most.

What I need most is gone now and she doesn't realize
When she left that night, there were tears in my eyes.

Maybe one day she'll come back to stay for a while,
It will not be easy, because she stole my smile.

This reminds me of my mother's affair and divorce from the man who raised me. All I can say is that this woman loved you, even though she was cruel to steal your smile. Know that she will have much difficulty finding happiness because of that fact, but she can not help it. She is obviously searching for something unattainable that she doesn't even understand, and she will be sorry for it someday. How beautiful it is that you can be so forgiving! What is that saying? 'Lord forgive them, for they know not what they do.' Absolutely, write on! -Serzi

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
