YOU'RE IDENTITY

                                     “YOU’RE IDENTITY”

Keeping your identity

Is no small thing

Let no one dominate

Your identity.

Let no man have power

Which belongs to you?

From the start, recognize

You’re importances---identity and power.

Be recognized as a free entity

Match your character

Happiness and contentment

Or stand alone.

Misery and loneliness

Embodies the soul

When identity and power

Is taken or given away.

At your expense

You’ve cheated your self

Stand strong always

Your identity God gave to you.

(Identity:  Recognizable individuality.  Psychological crisis caused by confusion about ones goals and role in society.)

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
