Poem Commentary

There are True friends ... but there are also those who are only friends when it is convenient for them.  I wrote this to ease some of my pain.  I don't hate... just no longer trust.

A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

A wolf in sheep’s clothing

Oh yes, you say you are my friend

shrouding disdain, only to pretend

Fake smiles and softness in your voice

your unknown revulsion, not my choice

That sparkle in your wide opened eyes

is hiding all your hateful lies

I never know just how you feel

you fake your friendship with such zeal

You dishonor me behind my back

the true affections that you lack

you come to me when you’re in need

Then insult me incessantly, you proceed.

You deceptively stain my reputation

it brings you pleasure and elation

to provide yourself with all your desires

No matter what injury to me transpires

Until today it becomes crystal clear

Their is no true friendship for me here

you have wronged and hurt me all along

my trust and faith in you was wrong!

It hurts me deeply to know the truth

but I know for sure; I now have proof

Your Spiteful and malicious ways

The wall between us forever will stay

I will never again trust in you

I now feel resentment and pity too

I can see now who you truly are

a wolf in sheep’s clothing , by far.

I’ll ne’er cause you discomfort or cause you any pain

But I will not be there for you ever again

I pray God will help you to make your sins right

A virtuous person emerging so bright!

I hope you know that not all people are like this. This poem is fraught with pain...sensitivity, and sweetness. That person is an idiot, not deserving of your friendship, but certainly worthy of your prayers...as I see, you know. Girl, just love that one from afar.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
