Alone Again

To think that only yesterday,
I was cheerful, bright and happy,
Looking for words to, well wouldn't you,
The role I hope to someday play.

But as if to knock me down,
Reality comes around,
And without as much as a mere touch,
Cut me in to little pieces.

Leaving me to doubt,
Oh, why did you desert me?

In my hour of need,
I truly am indeed,
ALONE AGAIN....
                         Naturally.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
