    Black

    Everywhere I look is dark
    Everything I see is black
    My mind is blank
    My heart is empty
    I cannot feel my body
    I am floating away
    Into the deep, deep sea
    I am not scared,
    Because I can feel nothing.
There is nothing left of me to feel
It has all been stripped away
    I am disappearing...
I am being all but dissolved into nothing
I am going down a dark twisted tunnel
The tunnel never ends and I am stuck in it forever...
    The walls return my screams
And I am beginning to feel again
My mind is no longer blank
And my body is no longer numb.
And yet, the only thing I feel is pain
The only thing I think about is the never ending tunnel.
I feel as if I am in a tornado...
I feel as if I have fallen off a cliff...
I feel as if there is no end and no beginning.
    My heart beats very slowly.
Each beat pounds against my chest,
    Like a drum.
And everywhere I look is dark...
And everything I see is black.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
